TRANSPORTATION
There are many options when traveling in Costa Rica. From the international airport in San Jose we suggest flying with Nature Air or Sansa Air to Quepos (to the north) or Palma Sur (to the south) airports. At either airport a car rental is available; we are able to alsoarrange for a shuttle van to pick you up if your plans are not to use a rental car. The rental car agency will deliver cars to Casa Big Sur as well. Driving Ocean Route 3 hours: Leave the airport head for San Jose, the new road to Route 27 Calerdus is now open which takes 45 minutes off the drive, please ask for a map at the rental agency as well, I have not seen a new map with the road marked. You will make two turns one to Escazu there is a sign which is about 15-20 minutes from the airport and the second shortly after (5 minutes) the first to Escazu and Santa Ana you will see sign again. You will also need some colones to pay the tolls about c5,000 or $10.00. The road was opened end of January and signage is not yet all in place. After driving about 45 minutes turn left on the off ramp and follow this route and signs towards Jaco and than Quepos and finally Dominical. After Quepos you will pass near Portalon, Matapalo and Hatillo before reaching Dominical, which from Quepos is about 35 minutes. From Dominical you head South 9 kms to the sign for Cuna del Angel which is after km marker 152. A sign for Costa Verde Estates and Bar Jolly Rogers is at the bottom of the hill to make your left turn. Use four-wheel drive and travel up 1.4 kms to Casa Big Sur. The entrance is located on the left just pass the parking area for the Bar Jolly Rogers and there is a Big Sur sign at the entrance. |
