The beaches here are beautiful, safe and friendly. You can drive to them within a few minutes and can easily find directions using Google Maps. Don't forget it’s a big world out there, so avoid leaving your valuables exposed in your car or unattended on the beach.

Playa Dominical:

Beaches of the South - Casa Big Sur

For the intermediate to advanced surfer, this is the beach for you. Beginners can take lessons here depending on the swell. For everyone else, you can swim, relax and explore many areas as long as you’re conscious of the tide and currents. From the main highway, take a right and drive north about 13 minutes. Take a left at the wooden sign, just before the bridge.

Playa Hermosa:

Beaches of the South - Casa Big Sur

This is the closest beach to the house. It's beautiful and has lifeguards, showers and authentic ceviche. It’s great for walking, swimming and surfing because of its sand bottom break. Take a left at the main highway and drive south for 10 minutes. The beach will be on your right just before Uvita.

Playa Uvita:

Beaches of the South - Casa Big Sur

Home of the Whale’s Tail, this national park is great for beginner surfers, swimmers and snorkelers. The Marino Ballena National Park is a collection of smaller beaches including Playa Chaman and Playa Colonia. Because it’s protected, there’s a small entrance fee to help maintain conservation efforts. It’s worth spending a day here to explore the Whale’s Tail at low tide. Turn left and head south on the highway for about 20 minutes. Turn right when you see Luna Decor and EMK Consultores. Follow the signs to the beach.

Playa Ventanas:

Beaches of the South - Casa Big Sur

This is a MUST SEE. The name Ventanas means ‘windows’ and was given because of the small caves that frame the ocean view. The beach is lined with scenic palm trees and the water is calm, making it the safest area to swim. Turn left on the highway heading south, past Uvita and continue towards Ojochal. A little before Ojochal you will find the entrance to the right. The drive is about 20 minutes.

Playa Linda:

Beaches of the South - Casa Big Sur

This pristine, sandy beach is fringed with expansive coconut palms. If you like privacy, you may often find yourself all alone. Drive north for about 20 minutes and take a left. The entrance is across from the restaurant El Patio and Supermarket Los Reyes.

Playa Manuel Antonio:

Beaches of the South - Casa Big Sur

You will have a difficult time finding another location in the world with an overwhelming abundance of unspoiled jungle, rivers, waterfalls, beaches and teeming wildlife that we live with every day. Drive north on the highway for about 40 minutes to Quepos. There’s only one road to Manuel Antonio from there.
